Core subjects of education are the focus at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic School. Students are immersed in language arts, mathematics, science, social studies and religion. We also believe in the immeasurable benefits of the arts to education. Students attend weekly art and music lessons. Upper elementary students receive personal music lessons for the instrument of their choice. |
Language Arts
Saxon Phonics and Spelling (1-2) Saxon Phonics and Spelling immerses students in the teaching of phonics and phonemic awareness. The program helps students build strong decoding and fluency skills to develop the foundation for success in reading. It also includes spelling and handwriting. A Reason For Handwriting (3-6) A Reason For Handwriting brings the faith alive during student handwriting practice. Weekly lessons are built around scripture verses. Students are not only practicing their handwriting skills, but also focusing their attention on scripture. Mathematics Singapore Math: Dimensions (K-4) Using the Dimensions Math series, students will be benefitting from the math curriculum used by students who rank #1 in mathematics in the world. Singapore has far surpassed the United States in math for many years, and this series brings the principles of the Singapore curriculum to students in a way that fits with teaching and learning methods of the United States. Science
STEM Enrichment Program -Our Wednesday STEM Enrichment Program involves students in hands-on, inquiry-based learning projects. Students use kits, books, and meaningful exploration to learn about the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The program also welcomes the first-hand experience of local presenters and educators who work in STEM related fields. Religion St. Thomas Aquinas School uses several different religious curriculum series all published through Our Sunday Visitor. Our Sunday Visitor is a Catholic religious publication. Allelu! (Kindergarten) Allelu! is an interactive early childhood program that involves students in learning about God through our faith, prayer, and the saints. Alive in Christ (1-2) Alive in Christ focuses students' formation on prayer and daily practice for living their faith. Alive in Christ (3-4) Alive in Christ teaches children to know, love, and live their Catholic faith through Scripture, doctrine, and prayer. |
